What is Heart Networks?

Heart Networks is Manchester's Community Cardiology service. We work in partnership with Manchester Foundation Trust to help reduce waiting times for patients with less complex cardiac symptoms. We provide expert assessment, diagnosis and management within the community. You can find out more information about Heart Networks here.

Why have I got an appointment?

You have been referred by your GP for further investigations and/or follow-up care. This may be for diagnostic tests such as a 12-lead ECG, ambulatory ECG monitoring, or blood pressure monitoringIn some cases, you may be referred for a full cardiology assessment with our clinical team.

A referral may be made if you have a new or existing diagnosis of high blood pressure (hypertension), when your medication needs monitoring, or when you’ve reported symptoms that require further investigation. Our aim is to help you understand your heart health and ensure you receive the right care at the right time.

Is Heart Networks part of the NHS?

We are an independent service who work in partnership with NHS services to deliver timely, high quality cardiology care.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

If your appointment is for a diagnostic ambulatory ECG or blood pressure monitor, please be aware that you will be sent home wearing a device. Unfortunately, you will not be able to shower while wearing this, so you may wish to shower before your appointment.

You will be expected to return your monitor. This is to ensure that we are able to provide timely results to your GP. It also ensures a swift turnaround of monitors, to avoid delaying treatment to other patients.  If you have any concerns about returning a device, please contact us on 0161 749 4755 to speak to a member of the team.

Where will my appointment take place?

Our main clinic is located in Chorlton, near to Southern Cemetery. We also have a satellite clinic at Manchester Institute of Health and Performance however appointments here are very limited. Your appointment confirmation SMS will advise which clinic you have been booked at.

Are your clinics accessible?
Is parking available?

Will I get my results on the day?

If you have been referred for diagnostic tests, your results will be sent back to your GP for them to review and follow up. We aim to send your results to your GP within 7 days of receiving these, to ensure there is no delay to any treatment.

If you are seen by our clinical team at Heart Networks, we will arrange a suitable follow up to discuss your results, either in a face to face appointment, or over the telephone.
