WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR AMBULATORY BP MONITOR APPOINTMENT
-
Please attend your appointment wearing loose fitting clothing - the BP cuff will sit on your left bicep (unless stated otherwise) and your clothing will have to fit around this.

-
You cannot get the device wet and so showering; bathing and swimming will not be permitted. You may have a splash wash but nothing more.

-
The cuff will have to sit tightly on your arm in order to get accurate readings. Your blood pressure will be taken (inflate) every 20 minutes throughout the day and every 60 minutes at night.

-
The BP machine will make a noise. This is normal.

-
After the device is fitted you will be asked to wait in the waiting room for up to 20 minutes so we can get a second reading from the machine to ensure it is working. If you cannot stay, please inform us at your appointment.
-
Optimal conditions for getting an accurate reading include sitting still, arm straight, no talking, legs uncrossed.

-
Please be aware you are required to return your monitor on the agreed date to the same clinic where you had your appointment. Alternative arrangements may be considered by the cardiac technician but these must be agreed to before you take the monitor.

-
You will be asked to provide an emergency contact at the appointment. This can be a family member or a friend’s contact number. This is a measure which is put in place, so we can make contact with the patient in case of anything urgent.
