WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR AMBULATORY BP MONITOR APPOINTMENT
-
Please wear loose-fitting clothing to your appointment. The BP cuff will be placed on your left upper arm (unless otherwise advised), and your clothing must allow for a snug fit around it.
-
The device must not get wet. Showering, bathing, and swimming are not permitted during the monitoring period. You may have a splash wash only.
-
The cuff must sit firmly on your arm to ensure accurate readings. It will inflate every 20 minutes during the day and every 60 minutes at night.
-
The monitor will make a noise during inflation - this is completely normal.
-
After fitting the device, you will be asked to wait in the clinic for up to 20 minutes so we can confirm the monitor is working correctly. If you are unable to stay, please let us know during your appointment.
-
For the most accurate readings, please sit still, keep your arm straight, avoid talking, and ensure your legs are uncrossed during each measurement.
-
You must return the monitor on the agreed date to the same clinic where it was fitted. If you need alternative arrangements, these must be discussed and agreed with the cardiac technician before taking the device home.
-
You will be asked to provide an emergency contact number (family member or friend) during your appointment. This is a precaution in case we need to reach you urgently during the monitoring period.
